Safety Stand Horses

The advent of the Marqua safety stand in 1880 radically changed rocking horse design and soon became the most common arrangement for a rocking horse. Kinder to floors and carpets, not tending to move around and safer for little fingers, it has numerous advantages over the traditional bow rocker.

Several of the horses featured here have been made by aspiring makers, the quality of finish and build reflecting their meticulous attention to detail, they offer excellent value for money.

Withers rate as one of the best professional makers in the country, yet given a quality of carving that rates with that of the great Victorian masters, they are quite reasonable with their prices.

Finally an usual arrangement, a sprung horse that relates to one of the many designs for a safer rocking mechanism in the late 19th century is Hoffman.
